Elle est faite prisonnière, et les bandits ordonnent à son père d'aller chercher l'argent sous peine de voir mourir sa fille. Verdugo part avec Romero, et trouve chez lui Don Alejandro, qui reconnaît Romero: un vaurien qui a perdu sa fortune au jeu et qui est recherché à Los Angeles. Romero menace alors les deux hommes avec un couteau, et réclame l'argent de la rançon. Il est désarmé par Zorro, qui prend l'apparence de Verdugo pour rejoindre les bandits avec Romero. Furieux, ! Pablo tue Romero qui était l'organisateur de ce complot, et se bat avec Zorro. Avec l'aide du Sergent Garcia, il arrête tous les bandits et libère Anna Maria. Quelques jours plus tard, Anna Maria et son père prennent la route de l'Espagne, et la jeune femme remet à Don Diego une lettre qu'il promet de remettre à Zorro. Alors Diego va se deguiser en Zorro, et lit la lettre tout en empechant Bernardo d'y jeter les yeux, en le menaçant du bout de l'épée.
